FAQ

A regular print uses dye inks on RC glossy paper. A Fine Art print uses archival pigment inks on premium conservation papers such as Canson Rag Photographique 310g or Canson Baryta Prestige 340g. The difference is also in the approach: at Z Lab, each print is individually calibrated with a custom ICC profile.

Piezography is a black and white printing system developed by Jon Cone that uses 10 shades of grey and a gloss overprint instead of standard CMYK inks. The result is exceptional tonal gradation, without metamerism (colour shift under different lighting), ideal for digital silver-gelatin prints on baryta or cotton rag. Piezography is produced by the MikeMuka studio.

The choice depends on the image and final use. For a matte cotton surface close to classic silver prints, Canson Rag Photographique 310g is our reference. For luminous results with deep dmax and a baryta feel, Canson Baryta Prestige 340g is ideal. For a painterly texture, Canson Aquarelle 310g; for something more unusual, the Awagami bamboo and mulberry papers. For high-contrast images with a metallic rendering, Hahnemühle Rag Metal 340g is remarkable. We always recommend a test proof before a full edition.
